On the Gamification of Learning

I will home school my child because by the time I have children, MathAcademy will have gamified math, physics, and cs. It is 4x faster than the average classroom, btw.

Reading will be positively reinforced by me, and children will learn by example. So will sports - I cannot wait for the day my child lifts more than I do and rides downhill faster than I do.

I am pretty much home schooled now. I am learning AP Calculus BC on my own. I am learning to code on my own, thanks to boot.dev (thanks prime for the intro). Even when I go to uni, I will be home schooled. That will be my edge.

Both of these are paid. Now I have never been one to pay for software. I was and still am the guy who is asked to pirate movies for my friends. Because you can pay Netflix how much ever the fuck they want you to, but will not give you 4K on the phone. I will pirate instead.

But my time in NZ and my mom's business has given us a little bit of disposable income (that I will go ahead and dump into an American education, nay, immigration pathway), but this software is worth it. boot.dev has regional pricing, and MA will soon have it as well.

Asian culture is after-school tuition culture. Compare MA's cost to tuition. Then look at the speed of both. Tell me with a straight face that your tuition is a better value.

I was a massive gamer.

There was a time in my life when I would stay awake till 4am and play PUBG mobile. Now I wake up at 4 and play math and code. Mathacademy and boot.dev. Instead of chicken dinners, there is money at the end of this game (when you get a job).

because MathAcademy has XP, leagues, courses, tight feedback loops. It will soon have clans.

Boot.dev is more enjoyable because it is less difficult, at least until I finish the beginner stages.

When you do a lesson and you immediately get XP, you are hooked.

Not to mention, the scaffolding, which is how slack the on-ramp to a concept is. It makes sure all the prerequisites are in place so you understand it all. Plus it teaches you a concepts in bits and quizzes you on them immediately.

Motherfucker, MathAcademy translates to uni credits (YMMV).

Now compare the effectiveness of tuition and MA.

Day 1/40 of AP calc BC - 1% done. I need to double the pace to get anywhere close to a 3 on the exam. Only 86/200xp done today.
